In the early days of Maemo kernel concepts people ported several GPE applications to the Maemo platform in order to run on the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. Maemo has evolved and later releases became the software platform of the sucessors N800 and N810.

At LinuxTag 2008 I had a short talk about GPE applications for Maemo - the slides of my talk are linked below (PDF). They should give a basic impression about the history of GPE in the context of Maemo.
